Named after an American President in 1887, Garfield (previously called Cannibal Creek) began as a railway and timber town.

Located 69km south east of Melbourne, between Bunyip and Tynong, Garfield is known for its close community with some local families spanning 4 generations.

Step out onto the main street of Garfield and be charmed by the ambience of a bygone era. With the shopfronts restored to recreate the 1960’s for a television miniseries, you really feel like you have stepped back in time.

The township of Garfield offers may amenities including the newly restored Garfield Picture Theatre which stands as its landmark. There is a primary school, church, post office, bank, of course a pub and an assortment of shops and food outlets.

Like most country towns there is a variety of sporting and recreational options including a golf course, swimming pool, bowls club, netball, football, tennis and skate park.

With the current population estimated to be around 2000 people, Garfield has attracted new residents with its upgraded train station with offers an easy commute to the city on the V-Line service.
